Dirt Cake

1-026
Dirt cake is another one of my favorite no bake, super simple summer dessert recipes! I love it because there aren’t too many ingredients and because, for some reason, it just screams summer to me!

Adapted from a family recipe

Ingredients:
2 boxes vanilla instant pudding (can substitute for chocolate if desired)
3 1/2 cups cold milk (I used 1%)
1 8 oz tub Cool Whip
1/4 cup butter, softened
1 8 oz package cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 packages Oreo cookies (crushed)*
gummy worms (if desired for decoration)

Directions:
Combine instant pudding and milk and whisk until it is slightly set, about 5 minutes. Fold in cool whip. In a separate bowl, mix together softened butter and cream cheese until well blended (I didn’t blend mine well enough and ended up with some chunks in my mixture; I also didn’t soften them enough beforehand.). Add pudding mixture to cream cheese mixture and stir together.
In a large serving bowl, alternate layering the pudding mixture and the Oreo cookie crumbs, starting with the pudding mixture and ending with the cookie crumbs.  Allow to chill in the refrigerator for at least an hour or so before serving. Top with gummy worms just before serving if desired.

*I used a quart-sized Ziploc bag and a rolling pin to crush the cookies. I put about two rows of cookies in at a time. It actually worked out really well!

Enjoy!
