Here we are on day 4 on our way to Galway (almost a 3 hour drive from Donegal). The above photo and the 2 below are from Sligo, where we followed signs for a waterfall on a whim. Lucky we did because the views were nothing less than spectacular. Here we are at the bottom of the mountains (we were quite literally in a mountain valley) looking out onto a lake… and some more sheep… and from here we walked up to the waterfall. This was also the first time I’ve seen a waterfall (in person, at least)!
This picture (above) was from our second stop on our drive to Galway in Crossmolina, where Joe’s mother’s family is from originally.
Finally in Galway! These next few photos are from what they call the Latin (or Spanish) quarter. It was really cool with bars, restaurants, and shops lining the streets. I think Joe and I could have spent a week here and have been perfectly content! We had a really good time just walking around and going from place to place checking out the local pubs. We ate dinner at The King’s Head on our first night there.
This is the Spanish arch, built in 1584. It is all that remains of a 16th century bastion added to the town’s walls for extra protection.
Yes, there is a pub called Monroe’s in Galway. Yes, we went in and had a drink and took multiple pictures here 🙂 We also met a really interesting man named Declan there… he told us some really neat stories that I won’t soon forget!
This picture (above) is from a little more than halfway up the mountain on our drive to see the Cliffs of Moher. It was really cool to look out from this point because from here, you were able to see and identify all of the major landmarks in the area (with the help of the sign/map that was staked into the ground for just this purpose).
These pictures are from the Cliffs of Moher… one of the most amazing sights I’ve ever seen.
This view is from the top of O’Brien’s tower and the photo below is a full view of the tower itself.
This photo and the one below are from our third hotel, Glen Lo Abbey Hotel.
Thank you guys for being so amazing and letting me share this with you. It means so much to me to have you following along! I hope you all had a great weekend! Joe and I spent the weekend catching up with friends and doing some much needed shopping!
I’m so not ready for it to be Monday but here it is anyway… so Happy Monday 🙂
