4 Bold Color Combinations I’m Wearing This Fall

If you’ve known me or followed me for any amount of time, you know I love color. I tend to stay clear of neutrals (though I did go through what I lovingly refer to as my “beige phase”) and really try to buy pieces that make me smile and that I can’t stop thinking about. I try to make sure that I can style said item with multiple items in my closet but I also try not to overthink it. For those reasons, I prefer online shopping to in store, especially when talking about more colorful purchases so I can think about the piece a little longer. I kind of think of fashion like art… buy what you love (within reason, of course!) and you’ll find a place for it. For this post, I’m rounding up four color combinations I’m wearing this fall, because it doesn’t always have to be brown and burgundy once the leaves start to change.

Falling For Color

Bold color combinations for fall

I love fall. Not as much as summer, but I do love sweaters and boots and crisp mornings. A good pair of chocolate brown loafers is high on my wish list this season. One of my least favorite things, though, is how everyone packs away their color once September arrives.

I’ve done that, too… every year once school starts, I feel like I have to put away all of my more colorful pieces in favor of darker and more somber hues. Then, inevitably, I feel like I have nothing to wear! So, this fall, I’m leaning into color just as much as any other season- sometimes pairing shades that make perfect sense together, and sometimes pairing colors that absolutely shouldn’t work but somehow do. I think the point is to have fun with your fall wardrobe. There are no rules you need to follow just because the temperature drops… wear what makes you happy!

I love green & pink paired together but am always a little cautious lest it look too girly. Pink works year-round and when you balance the shade with a few grounding pieces, like neutrals or warmer tones, you can wear it with pretty much any shade of green.

I know purple is everywhere right now and it’s also one of those colors you either gravitate towards or you don’t. I think it’s a really fun alternative to the traditional fall palette and also works well with the typical autumn colors… this makes it easy to add an interesting new piece in a trending color without having to buy a bunch of new clothes.

Yes, everyone pairs green and blue together but emerald green is a really fun color for fall. It’s unexpected and also looks really nice when you add a third jewel tone in, like a bold magenta or orchid. I’m pairing leopard with everything but I especially like the personality it adds to a gentler color palette like green & blue.

This may be the least expected color combination here but I generally use red as a neutral and think it’s an unexpected color to pair with yellow (even though they’re both primary colors). I think a bolder red works best with brighter yellows and if you have more of a mustard, you can add a darker shade of red. If you’re still finding your color groove, it can be as simple as adding a colorful accessory!

Sincerely, Britt
