We went apple picking back in mid-October but I never got around to sharing the photos so I wanted to share them now in conjunction with Thanksgiving and the end of the fall season. Also, I just really want them to live somewhere other than my camera roll!
I typically have a list of things I want to do throughout the season and apple picking has been on it for the last few years (this was our third year! See here for last year’s trip and here for the year before!)! It’s a cherished opportunity to have an experience with just the four of us doing something that the kids enjoy and that we’ve been able to make a tradition in our family (I love traditions and have been trying to create at least one for each season and for each holiday- send me your ideas- I’m always looking for more!)!
We picked a TON of apples this trip and so we’ve been steadily eating away at them since. I’ve given some away, eaten a bunch, made apple shortbread, apple scones, apple crisp, soups, ciders, and toast and we’re finally down to the last few!
I’m thinking I need to make a list of traditions I want to keep or start by season and holiday so I can refer back to it here…
Another tradition I want to start with our kids for Thanksgiving is practicing gratitude. Yes, I want this to be something we all practice daily (I’ve been saying that I want to start a gratitude journal for forever now) and I want to go an extra step to really signify the holiday. Maybe it can be something as simple as making a list of things we’re grateful for and finding a way to give back or pay it forward in some small way. For example, if we’re grateful for warm socks, maybe we donate a pair to someone in need. As they get older, I’d really love to take on larger scale service projects such as serving in a soup kitchen or putting together meals for families in need.
I think a “gratitude attitude” is so important for so many reasons and aside from working on mine, I want to teach my kids while they’re young how important it is to practice gratitude.
Is there a fun or meaningful tradition your family does for Thanksgiving or fall in general? And speaking of gratitude, did you see my latest Instagram post here (I got a little sentimental…)?

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I’m grateful for SO many things… my family, our health, being able to be home with our children, our home, good food, chocolate, coffee, beautiful fall foliage, Hallmark Christmas movies, my ballet class,… I’m also truly grateful for this space and for all of you being here! So, thank you!
P.S.
I will be posting some of my favorite Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals, sales, and picks so check back if you were already planning on shopping but, please, DO NOT feel pressured to buy anything! Sales and lists are absolutely not what this season is about… I’m just compiling a list of my favorites both for myself and to help anyone who might be looking for similar items!
