Sustainable Style: Summer 2019 Edit

backpack (have this in gray and LOVE it!), tank (just ordered this- you all know about my love for Everlane by now), joggers: J.Crew (NOT a sustainable brand in general but these joggers are made of , bikini top, bottom (both from Madewell- again, not a sustainable brand in general but their “Second Wave” swimsuit line is!), bags (need!), sandals, lip balm (by Olio e Osso- all natural & one of my favorites lip balms- I have No.11 & No.12 but this color is on my list!), jumpsuit, earrings (by Machete- a new to me sustainable accessories brand), dress, clip, bra, leggings (both from Girlfriend, also made using recycled materials!), sneakers

Hey guys! I thought I’d try something different this season and create my own initiative. I’ve been quietly complaining that it can be so hard to find sustainable style options, eco-friendly products, and even clean beauty from some of my favorite sites (Target, Amazon, Shopbop, etc.). Though some stores seem to be getting better at highlighting what is clean (looking at you Nordstrom– they actually recently added a sustainable style category with filters you can add according to your preferences and it’s been great! Sephora has a clean beauty section, too… also, I recently found and fell in love with Follain because I know everything there is clean and I don’t have to worry!). I’ve even suggested to RewardStyle via email to create a hashtag for sustainable style (#LTKsustainablestyle is what I’ve been using) to make sustainable pieces easier to find as opposed to having to spend so much time researching items and brands. I know I’ve talked about this before but I’ve done so much research on sustainable clothing, eco-friendly products, and clean beauty and I’m still just at the tip of the iceberg, and I think having to do the work to find these brands, etc. scares some people away from buying eco-friendly. I want to help to change that!

I think that many people want to shop sustainable style and lessen their carbon footprint, as well as the chemicals they put on and in their bodies, and it’s really hard to do when you don’t know where to start and the places you shop don’t have any organizational plan to help you find these products. With companies “green-washing” products (making them seem green when they’re not totally eco-friendly or chemical-free), it seems so overwhelming (and expensive), and also it’s just plain old hard to know if you don’t know already… so, all this to say I’m taking matters into my own hands and making shoppable categories on my site for the categories I can’t seem to find elsewhere, highlighting all of my favorite eco-friendly products so you don’t have to spend more time finding them yourself! As of now, I have a “sustainable style” tab for clothing, shoes, and accessories; a “clean beauty” tab for my clean beauty favorites; and an “eco-friendly products” tab for household items and other items that don’t fit into the style or beauty categories. I also added a “green living” category under “categories” to make all of these posts easier to find. I hope this is helpful to you! I’d also love if you’d send me anything you’re looking for whether it be a category I’m missing, a blog post you’d like to see me write, or a certain item (clothing, shoes, etc.) or brand you’re looking to swap out for a more sustainable option.

Note: In case you hadn’t already figured it out, all of the items pictured above and below are sustainable items, meaning they’re either made of recycled, sustainable, organic, or otherwise eco-friendly materials and the brands take ethical production into consideration, adhere to transparent practices, are conscious of their carbon footprint, and some even give back.

Disclaimer: I’m NOT perfect and I’m learning more every day! I just wanted to create a place to share what I’ve learned through countless hours of research and knowledge of being in this business over the past few years and hope that it saves you some time and stress in the process. As always, thank you so much for reading and for your support. I appreciate it more than you know!

Sincerely, Britt
