Sometimes getting dressed in transitional seasons, like spring and fall, can feel overwhelming. It’s one temperature in the morning, another in the afternoon, and yet another in the evening so layers are always important. I like to be warm so I find myself struggling with putting together outfits that feel cozy and comfortable and also chic. I’ve come to the conclusion that keeping it simple and streamlined is best and little styling tricks, like adding a belt or a necklace, can really elevate a basic outfit.
A formula I like to fall back on when I’m feeling like I don’t know what to wear is:
1. Start with one piece (in this case, I started with this dress)
2. Add some structure (I added a belt)
3. Add texture (this raffia & leather crossbody adds interest)
4. Finish with boots & layer on a sweater
Xirena dress, Everlane cardigan (this cardigan is very similar and only $50!), Banana Republic belt (old but this belt is almost exact), Frye riding boots (similar boots here), Quince bag

I have this lightweight cotton poplin shirt dress in two colors and it’s the perfect wear-to-everything dress. It dresses up easily with sandals or boots and a belt, yet feels just as easy to wear with sneakers and a hat and go!
If you don’t want to add a textured bag, you can also add interest to your look by introducing a print! I love how this striped tote is neutral and mixes different shades of brown so it doesn’t feel boring.
